LP Cover Redesign

Fall 2023

The goal of this project was to analyze and create a redesigned visual identity that reflects the essence of an album of my choice. I chose to research and redesign Wasteland, Baby! by Hozier, a deeply atmospheric album with themes of love, chaos, and renewal.

Through this process, I explored how design could enhance the album’s narrative and emotional impact. The following is a compilation of my research, conceptual development, and final design work.

Brainstorming/Sketching:

Big Idea: Apocalyptic Love

My initial idea upon choosing this album cover was to find a way to represent a satirical, accidentally falling in love at the worst possible time, ironic emotional state. I wanted to convey the oxymoron of love in the worst conditions . I began sketching and collecting ideas that related to my big idea before creating a central concept.

Preparing The Set:

My next task was to build the scene for my photo shoot. The key component was creating a distressed couch with the title spray-painted across for my subjects to dance around. I found a discarded futon and added the type before distressing it further to make it look like it belonged at a dump site.
